The human rights show "In-depth" directly preceeded Thomas's animal rights show Wild Time, which is now in its third year with over 160 shows aired and/or published.

IN-DEPTH premiered in May 2006 as 'Feature Of The Week' on LiberateFM before moving to NearFM/Near90FM. 81 shows have been produced and aired. Thomas was also involved in many other shows and specials.

Just like WILD TIME, IN-DEPTH was a very informative and engaging show with topics that do not age and that are still valid today.

Thomas Janak who is involved in community radio since 2003 is about to host and produce a new radio show called: "WILD TIME" - a one hour magazine style show about wildlife and nature, which will be going out every friday between 7p.m. - 8p.m. on 94.3fm on the digital hub fm.

First show is scheduled for February 15th. The program will consist of an interview with the manager of the Sea Life Centre Bray and many more.

Thomas who is also a pet psychologist, holistic animal healer and wolf expert (see www.holisticanimalhealing.net)has a great passion for wildlife and nature and the show will certainly reflect that.

13 - 01.08.2006 HIV AND AIDS featuring studio guest Breda Gahan, global HIV/AIDS advisor for NGO CONCERN. The show was a built up to the XVI. International Aids Conference which took place in August in Toronto/Canada.

14 - 08.08.2006 PARANORMAL INVESTIGATIONS featured interviews with mediums Stewart Keys and Carol Stirling and live guests Mark Guerin and Gavin Byrne who are involved in mentioned investigations.

Going through 40+ hours of audio footage, it has now been decided which pieces and interviews will go out again as part of the three part series of THE BEST OF IN-DEPTH 2007

Part I - 04.12.2007

The first installment will feature a presentation by Ian Farrer from Cats Protection Ireland about the plight of these magnificient animals. Furthermore the show will feature an interview with Remy LeMahieu from the ASH animal sanctuary in Kiltegan.

Professor Timon Screech will be talking about "the Bridge to Japan" followed by an interview with staff of the well known Yamamori restaurant, located on Dublin's Georges Street. The staff will talk about the differences and similarities between their life in Ireland and Japan

Part II - 11.12.2007

After listening to a piece from the Szechuan Opera followed by an interview with event organiser Sammy Wang and a patriotic woman from Hong Kong, we will bring you an interview with ex-prisoner and Fallun Gong practitioner Ming Zhao as a counterpiece.

The show will then conclude with footage from a charity gig for "Fighting Blindness" featuring the Deadbots as well as the Kill City Defectors.

Part III - 18.12.2007

The final part of the three part series features an interview with School of Audio Engeneering founder Tim Wiesner and an exclusive performance by US artist Vicky Genfan recorded in March at the International Music Fair.

Saxon lives ! - Update

A little over a year ago IN-DEPTH host Thomas Janak met Mike Townley, his wife Carol and their son Ross in Cardiff to talk about the whereabouts and future of police dog SAXON.

The dog had been taken from Mike and was scheduled for euthanisation. It was a big and very public case.

Shrouded in a cloud of silence for a long time Thomas just received an email from Saxons new owner. Apparently the dog is alive and well and works with his new owner in security.

According to the new owner the pair has bonded well and Saxon is always the best at the job.

Looks like a happy ending for Saxon

The first ever ALL IRELAND ANIMAL WELFARE CONFERENCE took place in Dublins City West Hotel on September 23rd 2007 organised by ANVIL.

The conference featured engaging talks by Mike Rendle from the Animal Welfare Federation of Northern Ireland, Veterinary Surgeon Bernadette Doyle* from the Irish Blue Cross, Ian Farrar from Cats Protection UK, Mary - Anne Bartlett from CIWF*, Jillian Saunders from Dog Trust Ireland, Jimmy Cahill from the DSPCA, Brendan Hughes from the ISPCA, Garrett Shine from the Louth County Council and Dr. Pete Widderburn who spoke on behalf of the VICAS group.

Thomas also talked to members of DID (Dogs in distress), Mutts-in-Distress and German Shepherd Rescue.

Other speakers included Anvil's own Miriam Anderson* and Maria Clarke. The PA wasn't working and there were some dropouts but Thomas is doing his very best to clean up the footage before airing it later in the year. Watch this space for on air dates.

Today, In-Depth host Thomas Janak found himself on air between 2p.m. and 3p.m. after having been abandoned by one of his fellow presenters.

An ad-hoc music hour graced the airwaves as Thomas was supported by Stephen Kelly(pic) and Orla Shiels, both currently on work experience.

Thomas had just met the two youngsters and vividly talked to them on air while playing a mixture of old and new songs.

The St. Nicholas of Myra parish center in Francis street recently played host to an extraordinary exhibition about the 21st century during this years' heritage week.

There were speeches, songs, slide shows, beer and wine and even a superb poem about the good old days by medievil-ly dressed Michael O' Flannagan.

The show about the heritage week will be broadcast on IN-DEPTH on October 2nd.

Together with the two parter about the festival of world cultures, three out of five weeks in october are already scheduled.

A gig was put on in The Sugar Club on Friday August 3rd in order to raise money for Fighting Blindness. Paul Loughran from NEAR 90 fm and friend Joseph O Connor are climbing to Everest basecamp in October for Figting Blindness and this gig was part of their fundraising initiative. Three bands played on the night: Kill City Defectors, Deadbots and Longtails .....

It was a great night with all acts putting in great perfomances. They also put on a raffle to win a trip for two to see Prince in London. This was won by a Ms Roslyn Doran. Overall they raised 2300 on the night and have now raised 9500 altogether. They are aiming to raise 12000 in total and more if possible.

Next weeks' show on INTEGRATION with Near90FMs own Flavia Corradetti is only the beginning of a series of shows about different cultures as IN-DEPTH will visit St. Nicholas of Myra during the national heritage week, have a look at the free eurocultured event to take place next Saturday before recording footage at the Festival of World Cultures.

The Festival of World Cultures is now in its 7th year and takes place over three days from Friday, 25th August to Sunday, 27th August, in Dun Laoghaire, Ireland.

Thomas will also partake at Amnesty International's Briefing Session on the shadow reporting mechanism on the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.

Although, as of yet unconfirmed, IN-DEPTH shall explore the phenomenon that is Harry Potter and Thomas Janak may even be able to talk to world class drummer and co-founder of the legendary shock rock band KISS, Peter Criss - all that and more only on IN-DEPTH.

Temporary Drummer (and IN-DEPTH producer/host) Thomas Janak (40), Saxophone player Sean McGuiness (89) and keyboarder Paddy Conolly (69) ....

The BOLTON STREET BAND is Irelands oldest boyband and currently consists of vocalist Des Kane (82), who sang with both the Rathgar and Rathmines Musical Society, Willie Shanks (70) on bodhran and spoons, Paddy Connolly (69) on the keys and Sean McGuiness (89) on saxophone.

Paddy has been playing professionally since he was only 18-years-old and was resident musician in Butlins for 14 years and Portmarnock Country Club for 10 years. Sean has played with stars such as Vera Lynn and the Joe Loss Orchestra.

The boys plan to be in the charts around Christmas time and are currently looking for an appropriate drummer.

Although Thomas Janak is an award winning songwriter and enjoyed three top 20 hits in the independent charts in Germany, including a nr. 1, in the 1990's as well as ranking in the top ten of all unsigned artists in the area of Frankfurt - he is simply too young to stay with the formation.

However, The Digital Hub is a befriended radio station of Near90FM and is not the same station or a sister station or anything like that.

The atrocious behaviour towards animals in this country continues. With the apparent ban of "dangerous dog breeds" from all county council estates some people guess that it won't stop there.

Soon all dogs on that list might be expelled from public parks or worse even rounded up and killed.

This will leave thousands of animals dead or dumped and thousands of responsible owners devastated.

Thomas will be talking to Helena Le Mahieu from ASH animal rescue and to Robert Kenny, Irelands first pet detective, about the effects this ban will have on all involved.

Thomas just got back from the International Music Fair in Frankfurt where he recorded ...

The shows will go out on the first two Tuesdays in May and contain of highlights from this years´ trade fair with all the new gadgets. The shows also feature great live performances by musicians from Dutch guitar player Duncan B to American singer/songwriter Vicki Genfan to German drummer Michael Wolpert and also features great interviews among others with the founder of the S.A.E - School of Audio Engeneering and numerous institutions whose aim is to promote musicianship ... two not to be missed.

This rather innocent looking dog is the reason wh IN-DEPTH host Thomas Janak was forced to cancel 2 shows, namely the ones with Mary Anderson about "Angels" and the one with Paul and Katie Goldin about "Traumatic Stress". Both shows will have to be rescheduled.

Thomas had a bowl of porridge one morning and ignored the dog, whose name is Charlie by the way, and Charlie wanted some attention and accidentally scratched Thomas´s left eye.

The abrasian on his left cornea turned into an ulcer and Thomas is currently wearing an eyepatch and has to take oilments 3x daily.

It is not as bad as it sounds and the dog wasn´t repremanded or punished or anything like that.

The show on the 19th of March goes on as planned and IN-DEPTH is back on March 20th 2007

The Rainbow Neighbourhood Project celebrated the Integration Day in conjunction with the Intercultural Centre Inchicore on February 23rd 2007.

Thomas Janak was there and talked to Jacob Nwazota, Co-Ordinator for the Intercultural Centre, people from Nigeria, India and Pakistan as well as to emigrant children who are in Irish schools.
There was plenty of food and music and the stories you will hear are somewhat encouraging as well as heartbreaking at times.

27.03.2007 "The Bridge to Japan" a talk organised by the Chester Beatty Library featuring Professor Timon Screech from the School of Oriental and African Studies in London. His talk explains why Tokyo is not build like any other city in the world.

03.04.2007 "Chinese New Year celebrations" - although Chinese New Year happens in February, it is worth going out on air at any given time during the year. The show features a special report about the performance of the Sechuan Opera at the Chester Beatty Library and features interviews with Chinese and Irish people. It is estimated that approximately 40 000 Chinese people are currently living in Ireland.

So please make sure not to miss these great shows.

"In-Depth" is way more than your average radio show - it is the show that goes a little deeper and stays with you for longer as it highlights issues around topics as diverse as HIV/AIDS, animal welfare, racism and, of course, health.

The 1-hour show featuring Dr. Anthony Cummins just flew by and Anthony will come back to Near 90 FM on February 27th when we will be talking about "the lack of medical facilities" in Ireland and how woman in particular fare regarding heart failure treatment.

Anthony is also involved in radio and has his own medical advise show every friday on The Digital Hub FM titled: "The heart of it". One can also hear him on Saturdays at Irish-language based radio "Radio na life" - a man of many talents indeed.
